Blackwell's bookshop has sold its most expensive book for £75,000. The 1513
complete works of Plato was sold earlier today to an un-named overseas
institution from the shop's rare books catalogue. The two-volume work, published
in Venice, was the first ever edition of the philosopher's works in their
original ancient Greek.
Blackwell's antiquarian book seller Andrew Hunter
said the book was at one time owned by an American collector, and was sold at an
auction in New York on his death.
